Our Client aims to strengthen its engineering group in support of its growth plans by recruiting for Staff a Pipe Stress Section Head they are offering an excellent opportunity for career progression.
Description
Reporting directly to the Piping & Layout Manager, the key responsibilities would be as follows:
Responsibility for design authority over all pipe stressing Head Office activities
Overall day-to-day running of the centralised Pipe Stressing section
Technical support to the project piping engineers and layout drawing office
Preparation and maintenance of company pipe stressing specifications and procedures
Identification of stress critical pipes by applying Client or company standard criteria
Static and dynamic stress analysis of high temperature and high pressure petrochemical type process piping, typically connected to strain sensitive equipment, using visual, manual and computer aided methods
Supplementary stress calculations, typically: flange leakage, pulsation and vibration analysis, seismic analysis, trunnion design
Identification and positioning of critical pipe supports
Preparation of comprehensive pipe stressing reports for manual and computer stress calculations
Preparation of draft mechanical data sheets, specifications and schedules for expansion bellows, spring supports etc
Checking calculations, reports, specifications and schedules prepared by others
Expediting pipe stress deliverables in a timely manner to ensure that project documentation requirements and deadlines are met
Ensuring that the applicable company systems are used, that the relevant QA procedures and standards are followed and that the pipe stressing within his area of responsibility conforms to contract specific requirements and any applicable client, licensor, company, national and international standards, design codes and legislation
Participation in design reviews when required
Liaison with Clients, Licensors, other design disciplines and equipment suppliers
On occasion acting as stressing Lead Engineer within a large multidisciplinary task force, directing and supervising a small team of stressing engineers. In this capacity, responsible for man-hour budgetary control, resource planning and manpower forecasting for pipe stressing personnel
Identification of contractual scope changes relating to the pipe stressing scope and thereafter assisting with the preparation of pipe stressing man-hour estimates to execute any additional work
Qualifications
Relevant degree, HND or HNC or equivalent
Experience
Relevant experience in the petrochemical or related industry including experience as a Pipe Stress Engineer using Caesar II software Experience of very high pressure process plant
Experience of pipe stress engineering as an integrated part of the overall design process, including software and methodologies for improving execution efficiencies, would be a significant advantage.
Skills Desired in a Candidate
Broad expertise in petrochemical or related process plant design.
Caesar II static analysis (essential)
Caesar II dynamic analysis (preferred)
Knowledge of additional proprietary pipe stressing and Finite Element software e.g PSA5, ANSYS etc. would be an advantage
Credibility within this technical area requires a good understanding of the relevant national and
international standards, design codes and legislation applicable to process plant pipe stressing for
example ASME B31.3, API610 and WRC297. |
